Paul’s God-given commission to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19, 20) and engage our world with the truth of the gospel (1 Peter 3:15) isn’t his commission alone; you and I have been called to engage our world with the truth and love of the gospel, too.

So, how are those conversations going?

Our world needs to be engaged – and Christ has called us to engage it with the truth and love of the gospel. The question before us isn’t should we engage our world; we already are – whether we realize it or not. The question is, are we as Christians going to do it well?

In our last lesson, we closed with a Bible passage from 1 Peter chapter 3: “…in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience…”

Let’s talk about what this passage means for us as we seek to engage our world with the gospel.

In Acts 17, our God gives us some guidance for how we can meaningfully and intentionally engage competing worldviews for the sake of preaching the gospel.

The Christian faith is a faith our world can engage. It’s a faith that invites skeptics and unbelievers to interrogate it; the Christian faith is also a faith that engages the world.
